Whether you live in Colorado or not, you’ve probably heard the grumblings. It’s over populated. The trailhead parking is full by 6am.
During peak summer and fall months, the trailheads are full by 6am on the weekends. Everyone wants to get out, stretch their legs and lungs, and appreciate the beauty of this state. And I don’t blame them.
So let’s talk about why a weekday elopement in Colorado might be in your best interest.
There are a few handfuls of very popular, scenic spots for eloping in Colorado. Most of them are pretty accessible – paved paths, minimal hiking or even no hiking. Accessibility to these trails and areas also means popularity. And popularity means you’re going to find a crowd or two there. Not just eloping couples, either. Colorado is a huge destination state. People come here from all over the country to experience the mountains.
So, there’s basically only one reason why eloping on a weekday in Colorado is the best:
Say it with me. LESS. PEOPLE.
Now, let’s talk about how that affects you, the couple.
Less people means a better selection for lodging. And weekdays are usually more affordable, too! If you’re planning any part of your elopement to take place where you’re staying – even if it’s just getting ready photos – try to find a property you can see yourself getting ready in. Popular places in the mountains can book up a year in advance. Booking your lodging for a chunk of weekdays will give you some wiggle room and better options.
Less people at popular scenic locations means more parking. Some of the most popular spots in the high country have 10 parking spots or less. And rangers often don’t let you just park on the side of the road. If you can’t park, you can’t go. On the same thread, some places like recreation areas and national parks require a timed entry parking permit. As you can imagine, those are much harder to get your hands on for a weekend, when everyone else is recreating.
Less people also means more privacy. Well, duh Taylor, that’s a given. I get a lot of introverted couples that are eloping because they want their wedding in a more intimate setting. And I totally get that. Being emotional and vulnerable during your vows while strangers are walking by is…hard to say the least. It’s distracting. It doesn’t feel as genuine.
Less people also means more time for us. Yes, us 3. 🙂 More time for photos and intentional moments – uninterrupted! When there are crowds of people at popular spots, it is not uncommon that we have to wait for an area to clear out so we can shoot there. Whether it be other couples wanting the same location or families taking in the views. And, if you pick a popular area, you’ll likely see other couples tying the knot too.
I know weekday elopements aren’t the answer for every situation, but if you ever have any questions about them – or just elopements & logistics in general – reach out!
