When Caitlin and Matt first inquired with me, they had their hearts set on a classic Colorado a-frame cabin elopement. Picking the a-frame cabin airbnb was a fun journey for them – as they imagined themselves getting married in each space. Ultimately, they settled on this adorable cabin in Jefferson, CO called the Triangle Cabin. It’s the perfect place for an intimate elopement with no guests. This cabin is just one bedroom. It offers a retro kitchen space, spiral staircase to the lofted bedroom and the cutest red-orange couch. We love a pop of color. The front of the house invites you in with a contrasting red door and aspens hugging the walkway. The views off the back patio show endless miles of the continental mountain range.
Caitlin and Matt started their day with mimosas while getting ready together. As they were getting ready, I was able to shoot some elopement day details – vow books, rings, dress, shoes. They finished getting ready and decided to have a little “mimosa moment” on the patio, just to commemorate their wedding day. I got some adorable photos of them drinking together and enjoying each others’ company. Then we walked around the property while they decided where they wanted to have their elopement ceremony. They picked a lovely spot in the back yard with that thousand-mile view of the mountains.
Caitlin and Matt decided who would say their vows first with a riveting game of rock, paper, scissors. Their ceremony was sweet and emotion-filled. With wide open spaces like this, I tend to stay back and shoot with my longer focal lengths. I give them space to say what they want. Sometimes I can hear them, sometimes I can’t. It’s their promise to each other. Since I’m not documenting sound, this is a great way to give my couples some privacy.
After their sweet ceremony, we went back to the cabin to sign their Colorado marriage license and make it *official.*
Caitlin and Matt wanted to add some adventure to their elopement day, so we drove to a nearby trail overlooking some of the tallest mountains in Colorado. This location does require some hiking, but these two were such good sports hiking in their wedding attire! We paused on the trail for some portraits with a beautiful backdrop. While we were there, we were greeted by multiple hikers coming down from a fun day on the trail.
Caitlin and Matt rounded out their day by heading back to the cabin for a ceremonious cake cutting. All in all, their day couldn’t have been better. We had glorious weather – no rain or wind; no timeline to abide to; and just a relaxed mood all around.
